The Krzyżtopór Castle in Ujazd

The castle was built in 1644 on Krzysztof Ossoliński (the governor of the Sandomierz Province) order. The monumental complex palace, as the legend states was built on the model of a year so it possessed: as many windows as the year has its days, as many rooms as weeks, as many halls as the months and finally four towers representing four seasons. In one of the towers the ceiling was nothing but the aquarium, full of exotic fish. Horses kept there were drinking water form marble mangers.

Its ruins are claimed to be the most fascinating in Europe.. Despite the contless destructions it still attracts visitors thanks to its magic and mystery.

         What is more, “the castle” organizes regular cultural events, picnics and knights’ tournaments.
